Quarterback becomes the first eagle player to receive a gesture

New Haven, Connecticut – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the National Football League’s Offensive and Defensive Players Division of the Week, presented by 777 Partners, for matches ending September 10.

About the Award: This is the 19th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation has honored an offensive and one defensive player as the National Football League Subdivision Player of the Week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

Offensive Player of the Week

Kyle Fantres He passed for 409 yards (37 of 56) and one touchdown and had a game-winning eight-yard touchdown track with 36 seconds left to lift South Georgia to a 45-42 win on the road in Nebraska. Vantress completed passes to eight different Eagle recipients as the team – which totaled 642 offense yards – improved to 2-0.

Drew Sanders, Arkansas

Drew Sanders scored 11 tackles (8 singles), including three tackles for losses, two quarterback sacks and forced two fumbles when Arkansas defeated SEC opponent, South Carolina, 44-30. Sanders also scored one pass breakup and quickly rushed the quarterback as the Razorbacks improved to 2-0.

Notes: Drew Sanders is the fifth Arkansas player to win the Walter Camp Player of the Year award since 2004, and the first since former Razorback quarterback Hunter Henry (September 12, 2021).

Walter Camp, the “father of American football” first picked the All-America team in 1889. Camp—a former Yale University athlete and soccer coach—is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, steady plays, numerical evaluation of goals, and tries and restriction play.
