Santana Homers twice, leading 5; Sailors criticize the angels 9-1

Anaheim, CA – Carlos Santana not only delivered a huge birthday present to his mom on Monday, but helped get the Seattle Mariners back on track in their bid to make the post-season for the first time since 2001.

Santana floated twice, including his The first Grand Slam in three years, And Ty France led in four games as the Mariners cut short a three-game losing streak with a 9-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

“My wife told me, ‘Like, I think if you don’t get a home, you don’t like your mother. “Well, I love my mom,” Santana said after the 15th multi-entry game and fourth of the season. “There’s a lot of love out there.”

The 13-year-old veteran — who has assisted Cleveland in four pre-season games, including the 2016 World Championship — has made 15 out of 19 times this season since Seattle acquired him from Kansas City in late June.

He’s also gone deep seven times in his last nine games with Seattle (81-65), which opened up a 4 1/2 game lead over Baltimore for the AL’s last wild card spot. The Detroit Orioles played later on Monday.

“After the second time I said, ‘You must really love your mom,’” said Scott Service, head coach. And he said, ‘She’s the best.’ He’s a veteran of the club and helps the players, even through that little slip. These guys are valuable, especially when they hit the Grand Slam.”

Logan Gilbert had a career high of 11, allowing one run and four strokes in six innings and helping prevent the Mariners from drifting into a four-game streak at Angle Stadium for the first time in 10 years.

Gilbert Shuhei Otani to chase the slider to finish 12-pitch, brought bat in the first inning and then hit the side in the second.

“I felt so good. I think it just means that your bids are successful and you get good results, which is always the priority. It’s not just about strike action, but it’s good to see,” Gilbert said.

Otani had two hits and scored in the sixth inning. The AL MVP hit the Governor safely in his last five games and is 6-for-17 during that time. Mike Trout was not in the squad due to a planned rest day.

Seattle led 5-0 in the fifth inning of Santana’s Grand Slam. He drove a 91.5-mile fastball from Jose Suarez 420 feet off the center of the Bulls and into the stands at left of center. Then he added Single shot to the center In ninth place off Mike Myers who hit 423 feet.

France’s double pushed down the left line at GB Crawford to put the Mariners 1-0 ahead in the first. France hit Homer from three runs on Zach Weiss to make it 8-1 on seventh.

Suarez allowed five runs and seven strikes in five.

“In the first four rounds he was good,” said Phil Nevin, Angels interim manager. “Crawford took some good flips from him but he threw the ball well into the (fifth) inning. You fall behind 3-0 and go in against a guy like Santana, he’s going to do some damage.”

Gilbert has a 2.01 ERA (nine runs gained in 40 1/3 innings) with nine walks and 45 strikes in his last seven games since August 14.

Los Angeles beat the Mariners 10-9 in 2022 and won the series season in three of the past four years.

Mariners: CF Julio Rodriguez (back) took at least 30 passes from the tee before the game and could return to the line-up on Tuesday. …C Cal Raleigh remained outside dealing with the pain in his left thumb.

Nevin said his plan is for Trout to play all but one of the remaining 15 matches, with another appearance likely to be the designated hitter.

Sailors: They continued their 10-game journey with three in Auckland. RHP Luis Castillo (7-5, 2.68) is 3-1 in nine starts since getting it from Cincinnati on a trade deadline.

Angels: Go on the road for six games starting Tuesday against Texas. LHP Patrick Sandoval (5-9, 2.99 ERA) is 0-2 in five games versus Rangers.
