Paul Pogba claimed in his police statement that he agreed to pay the salaries of two armed men after they were held at gunpoint during an alleged extortion attempt, according to reports.
The incident is believed to have occurred on March 19 in the Paris suburbs, and Pogba reportedly paid £85,000 to the racketeers, despite their claim of £11m of it.
Pogba’s brother, Matthias, was later charged with his alleged involvement in an extortion plot and is currently in police custody.
Four other men, believed to be his accomplices, have also been placed under official investigation for racketeering and criminal association.
Describing what was going through his head when he came face to face with the armed men, Pogba told police via Le Monde: ‘I was scared. The two men pointed their weapons at me. So, having been put off in this way, under threat, I told them I would pay.
Pogba’s plight came to light last month when his brother Matthias threatened to publish an “explosive” reveal about the former Manchester United star to the public.
The Juventus midfielder responded by revealing that he was not surprised by Matthias’ threat, revealing that he had been taken hostage by men carrying assault rifles as part of a long-running extortion plot involving his brother.

Pogba’s brother, Matthias, has been charged with his alleged involvement in the attempted extortion, and is currently in police custody.
Matthias denied the accusations made by his brother, describing him as a “coward, traitor and hypocrite”.
It is also alleged that Pogba met a witch doctor to cast a spell on his international teammate Kylian Mbappe.
Pogba denied the claim, and Mbappe has since spoken out about the accusation.
“Today I’d rather believe what my teammates say,” he said earlier this month.
