On The Horizon: Cubs vs. Series Preview

The Cubs have won four of their last six games against the Rockies at Wrigley Field since 2019.

This is important because Rox generally played poorly on the road.

For more information on the Rockies, here’s Joelle Milholm, a staff writer at SB Nation Rockies purple row:

With the season entering high hopes after Kris Bryant signed a seven-year deal worth $182 million, the Rockies have since fallen to the ground and into the basement of NL West. Not only did Bryant suffer injuries that left him missing more than 100 games as of Thursday, September 15, the Rookies who started the rotation lost their way. German Marquez, an All-Star star in 2021 with a 3.67 ERA at Corse Field last season, has a 6.78 ERA at home in 2022. Kyle Freeland still has mixed results (although he did very well against the White Sox on Wednesday). ) as did veterans Chad Cole and Jose Urena. The Rocky pitchers combined for the worst era and BA against baseball at 5.07 and .272 respectively.

Off the field, Rocky’s chronic problems remain as they struggle to strike and win on the road. They are 22-47 (with a win ratio of 0.319) away from the Coors and have scored the fewest tracks in MLB at 208. Offensively, CJ Cron has another strong season for Colorado and leads the Rockies with 28 Homers, but he had 21 in the All-Star break before falling into a slump. The Rockies picked Jose Iglesias to fill in after Trevor Storey lost to free agency and leads the team as the only player eligible to reach 0.300 (but is currently injured). On the bright side, the Rockies are seeing promising play from potential powerhouses Michael Toglia, first baseman and right-hand man, and Elioris Monteiro, powerhouse cornerback. While there are some exciting players for the future, the Rockies are wrapping up their fourth consecutive season of losing and heading off the season without a clear plan for how to return to winning baseball.

Fun fact

The Rockies enter this series and lead the MLB in rounds allowed, with 774. That’s 95 times more than the Cubs allowed.

These matches on the field look favorable for the Cubs. As noted above, the Rockies have the worst road record in MLB and are 7-20 on the road since breaking the All-Star.

I’ll be disappointed if the Cubs don’t win at least Two out of three here.
