While Spencer Strider would rightly grab all the attention opening the Braves series with the Giants, our MLB player picks are looking to his counterpart – Alex Cobb – to surpass the 5.5 underdog total.
The new week of baseball begins with a slightly lighter day on the diamond as there are only nine games on the MLB schedule. But there are many interesting games that involve bungee racing, so there is no shortage of excitement and value in the player kit market.
Today, we continue riding the Bo flow as the Toronto Blue Jays open a massive series with the Tampa Bay Rays. And while it’s Spencer Strider who will get the most headlines at tonight’s Braves-Giants game, we’re actually looking at a strike prop for his counterpart, Alex Cobb.

bend it like boo
It might be mid-September, and the days are cooling off. But don’t tell that to Bo Pechette who’s feeling hot as if it’s still summer days. The short-lived Blue Jays will be looking to stay on the sun’s surface hot when he and his teammates open a massive five-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays.
For those who watch Blue Jays regularly, seeing the difference in Bichette’s style on the board lately has been a game changer. Short Jays does a much better job of keeping his head low and steady, letting the ball hit his racket, and he’s ready to take the ball the other way.
The results were exceptional. Bichette scored 22 in 44 at-bats (.500) in the month of September and has an impressive 1.602 OPS. Includes 13 additional base strokes (six home runs).
Meanwhile, the Rays enter the series leading the Blue Jays by just half a game to take the top spot in the MLS Wild Card Championships, but they come out on a tough weekend at Yankee Stadium. Tampa Bay had two built-in rounds of starters over the weekend and had to dig deep in the bulls, including using long man Ryan Yarbrough for five rounds yesterday.
So, Rays Cooper called up Criswell to deliver his first Big League rounds this year, while also calling up five other arms of the Triple-A team.
While Rays has some great arms in this pen, I’m giving preference to Bo in this match. He stayed on track and went over 1.5 total base for the eighth time in his last 11 games.

A familiar enemy of Marty
A sluggish start and nagging injuries seemed to have held back Arizona Diamondbacks man Kittel Mart all season. As a result, Marte has only made 0.243 for the year. And that’s not something we’re used to for a guy who averaged 0.318 over his previous three seasons.
But sometimes a familiar face is just what you need to get back on the right track. And that’s what’s going to happen tonight when Marty digs through the jumble box and looks across the Los Angeles Dodgers first with Tyler Anderson.
While Anderson has been doing well this season, he’s been dealing with a lot of friction, and Marty has used that to his advantage. Marte Anderson has faced 23 times in his career, racking up 10 hits (.435) including five pairs and two doubles.
Plus, while Matre doesn’t have much to show for him, he still sees the ball well and hits it hard. It ranks 69th in strike rate and average exit velocity, and in the 96th percentile in maximum exit velocity.
Marte also hits a more outstanding 292 when on a left-handed throw this season, so getting his 1.5 base total in is better than the money for it to be so valuable in this game.
Marty pillar kettle: more than 1.5 total bases (+108)
Lowest known value with a cup
Spencer Stryder, the likely candidate for this year’s Rookie National League title, will be the focus of most people’s attention when he takes the ball tonight for the Atlanta Braves when they visit the San Francisco Giants.
why not? Strider was an astonishing 2.69 ERA while hitting a ridiculous 13.6 hits per nine runs.
Having said that, instead, we’ll focus on his counterpart on this one – Alex Cope.
Cobb has a solid year for the Giants. He probably was a little better than his 3.68 ERA with a FIP of 3.00, but his strikes are up recently as well. The right-hander averaged 10.04 per nine starts over his last nine starts.
Tonight, the brave team will face a free-swinging. To be fair, it works. Atlanta ranks second in home runs, but that team’s impact also ranks 28th in attacking strikes per game and comes after last when it comes to K-rate versus right-handers.
We’ve got great money in over 5.5, a number Cope has lost six times over his last nine starts. Seems like a solid bet to do it again tonight.
Alex cup prop: more than 5.5 hits (+115)
