Mitch Trubesky’s post-match comments put Matt Canada into question

The Pittsburgh Steelers Lost in week 2 to New England Patriots 17-14, the biggest question about the loss was not defense, but attack. Mitch Trubisky struggled in the match, and the offense failed to attack midfield and press the ball down.

This is nothing new for the Steelers and their fans, but the question is whether the issues with the flat and gentle insult are due to the limited play of the quarterback, or offensive coordinator.

Matt Canada has drawn his share of outrage from the fan base since taking charge of offense in 2021, but how much offensive problems in 2022 in Canada or Trubisky? After the Patriots game, Trubisky was on the podium to answer questions.

You’ll never guess what the first question was… I include the exact question and quote below for context.

What should happen with more pass down the field and pass the middle with this attack?

“Call the concepts to get the receivers there. When coverage dictates that, give them the ball inside that.”

“I saw a lot of top positions, the supporters sitting in the middle, the safety in the middle of the field. We love our away games. We have really good receivers. We have really good talent across the board. We like to attack all areas of the pitch and get the ball to our playmakers. So We can do a little better at everything for sure.”

Please read this quote again. Trubisky does not hold back when talking about what concepts are called, etc. I don’t blame him. This might be Trubisky’s last shot to be a major league fixture, and the amount of heat he’s feeling with Kenny Pickett waiting in the wings will force most of them to defer some of the blame.

Let’s continue with Trubisky’s answer…

Did you see a lot of odd peaks today?

Follow up: What are your options when you see this?

“If it’s the guy, the best matches. If it’s an area, look for the holes. It comes down to timing and being in the right place at the right time. They’ve done a good job mixing it up. They don’t just play one high. They play a bunch of coverings.”

“We can be better at everything. I can be better at decision-making. We had some missed chances. I missed some throws. We had a couple who weren’t on the same page. Bottom line, we have to score more points. So, our focus was On being better in third this week. I think we were a little better at that, in the first half at least. In the fourth quarter we have to turn those so we can stay on the field and give ourselves a chance. I just felt the missed chances by me and the insult There’s a lot we can improve on. So, we have to look at that and move very quickly because we have another game on Thursday. It will come quickly. We have to move on to the next stage and make sure we improve.”

Moving on to the next stage can be an understatement. When Mike Tomlin speaks to the media on Monday, an early day with Thursday night’s game in Week 3, he will be peppered with questions about the coordinator and quarterback. Needless to say, the answers fans are looking for aren’t in the audio byte or in a press conference.

He is in the field.

Trubisky will have a quick turnaround, and if he plays well, that could be what the Doctor is asking for his future in the NFL. However, quell another deficit, and the Steelers may be looking at an extended break to get their rookie quarterback ready to take over.
