The 2022 NFL season has finally arrived, which means fan bases across America should get their first official look at their team’s prospects, defense, coach and most importantly, quarterback.
But this season, quarterback rooms across the league have looked somewhat more inclined thanks to the record number of non-white QBs starting in the center. Once it was thought that he was not smart enough to play center, a large number of black and other non-white quarterbacks became stars in the league and saw that reflected in their bank accounts.
For the first time in NFL history, 13 players started behind a non-white back for an NFL team, and 11 of those middlemen were black, including Lamar JacksonJustin Fields, Trey Lance, Keeler Murray, Patrick Mahomes, Jacoby Brissett, Dak Prescott, Galen Hurts, James Winston, Gino Smith and Russell Wilson. (Smith and Wilson are expected to compete against each other on Monday Night Football.)
Other non-white QB players who started on Sunday are Samoan fit and include Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagoviloa and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Troy Vincent, executive vice president of football operations for the NFL, said in a statement sent to root“Historically, because of myths and lies, black quarterbacks have been underrepresented. Today, the 13 captains in the NFL clubs confirm that this situation has normalized at both the college and professional levels, and the NFL is proud to have these talented men progressed as beginning quarterbacks. We We look forward to seeing their continued successes and achievements, not only during this season, but also in the future.”
Many of these players performed well, while the others performed poorly. Here’s a summary of how each of the Black (and other non-white) QBs performed during their first game of the season.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Galen Hurts got off to a great start, scoring the Eagles’ first touchdown of the season in a running game. He finished with a 243-yard pass and a 38-35 thriller win.
James Winston and Marcus Mariota go head-to-head against each other in a classic Southern Football League competition against the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, who are hot rivals. In the Hawks’ normal fashion, The Dirty Birds overtook the 10-26 lead and allowed the Saints to come back to win 27-26.
Winston threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns while Mariota threw for 215 yards and ran one touchdown.
It’s hard to be a hawk fan. Trust me, I will know.
The Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers played against each other in the Windy City monsoon season. Both teams were starting young black quarterbacks from the 2021 NFL Draft class. Justin Fields came out on top and threw two touchdowns at a 121-yard passer. Tre Lance, on the other hand, struggled in the rain and threw one interception for 164 yards.
Another match between the Black QB youth came in the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. While both teams played, only one appeared. The Chiefs kicked the Cardinals’ ass to win 44-21. Patrick Mahomes threw 360 yards and 5 touchdowns. Killer Murray threw meaningless touchdown passes at 193 yards.
Despite not signing a new contract, Lamar Jackson showed up in his performance against the humble New York Jets, throwing three touchdowns at 213 yards.
Tua Tagovailoa played well in the season opener against the once-dominant New England Patriots, thanks to Cheetah (Tyreek Hill future) who they signed this season. Dolphins won the game 20-7 as Tua threw for one touchdown at 270 yards.
Jacobi Brissett, quarterback until Deshaun Watson completed his 11-game suspension, won his first game with the Cleveland Browns, landing once on a 147-yard pass against the Carolina Panthers.
During Sunday’s final game, Dak Prescott faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it wasn’t a good show. Before he was taken out of the game, Prescott threw a single interception for 134 yards. reported by ESPN That Prescott will have surgery on his right thumb, sidelined for up to eight weeks.
The last game of the week sees the Denver Broncos play the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. That’s right, Russell Wilson will return to play against the only other team he has played for during his 10-year career. He will face fellow Black QB Geno Smith.
Which black quarterback will come out on top?
