Garoppolo comes off the bench to lead 49ers after Seahawks 27-7

SANTA CLARA, California (AP) – After the shock of losing starting quarterback Trey Lance to a season-ending injury, the San Francisco 49ers looked awfully familiar with Jimmy Garoppolo in the middle.

Garoppolo threw a touchdown pass on his first full drive after replacing Lance and ran for another score to help the San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 27-7 on Sunday.

“Just like riding a bike,” Garoppolo said. “It was nice to be back there. I feel in awe for Trey. I’ve been on this side of her. This league is tough. It sucks for him.”

Lance broke his right ankle in the second round of the game, an injury that ended last season for the 22-year-old who held the keys to San Francisco’s offensive this season. He was carried off the field on a chariot, his injured ankle in the air.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that Lance would need surgery and miss the rest of the season.
