Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The Cowboys in Dallas You have a hole the size of a Duck Prescott to fill your quarterback, and your previous #3 draft pick can be available for cheap. Now that Baker Mayfield has won the Panthers starting quarterback, Sam Darnold is one of the highest paid backups in the NFL with $18.9 million salary.

Darnold is sidelined with an ankle injury, and Carolina could move from third midfield for a very low asking price. Ovarian Report Christopher Knox named cowboys and Cleveland Browns As the best potential landing points for Darnold trading.

“As quarterbacks continue to hit the injury list, expendable quarterbacks like Sam Darnold will see an increase in commercial value,” Knox wrote on September 14, 2022. In three weeks.

Darnold isn’t an advanced midfielder, but he has 49 starts on his resume. Meanwhile, The Panthers are trading with 2018’s first pick of Baker Mayfield as their starter and PJ Walker as their backup. Darnold’s $18.9 million salary is guaranteed in 2022 And if the Panthers can find a team to take any of that money, they’ll seize the opportunity.

“Right now, Dallas is the only team desperate for a quarterback – and their interests will hinge on Prescott’s recovery schedule.”

What will the Darnold Cowboys trade cost?

Darnold’s potential trade would likely look something like what the Panthers hatched with Brown for Mayfield. Cleveland paid the majority of Mayfield’s salary, and Carolina waived a conditional selection for the fifth round. Darnold’s trade would probably be worth less, and the Cowboys could be able to land him for even less.

Darnold’s best season came in 2019 when he was threw 3,024 yards19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 61.9% of his passes in 13 games for a team New York Jets. Darnold struggled during his Panthers QB1 last season, netting 2,527 yards, 13 interceptions and nine touchdowns while completing 59.9% of his passes in 12 contests. He also added 222 streaming yards and five TDs on the ground.

Darnold isn’t offering the Cowboys an immediate fix due to his ankle injury, but he is expected to be back on the field sooner than Prescott. It would be wise for the Cowboys to invest more in QB2 even when Prescott returns in full force given his recent injury history. Darnold, who enters the last year of his life $30.2 million start-up contractThe Cowboys could offer a potential long-term solution to a spare quarterback role.

Darnold wasn’t able to live up to expectations coming third in the 2018 draft. That doesn’t mean he can’t emerge as a viable backup, something the Cowboys need to find a solution given Prescott’s injury history.

Jones described the QB deal as unlikely

Despite the rumors, all indications are that the Cowboys are leaning toward Cooper Rush and Will Greer in Prescott’s absence. The Cowboys remain optimistic that Prescott will be back sooner rather than later. During an interview on September 13 on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan and RJ,” Jones noted that cowboys had no “in the factory” business.

“The people who are ready to play our quarterback are the ones who have played all the pre-season: Cooper Rush and [Will] Jones said. “They had real competition. Greer slowed down there eventually with a hamstring problem, but he has to go through that problem now. So, we’ve got a lot of good shots for these guys, both in our training sessions and in all of our pre-season games in Most of the time.

“These guys know attacking well, have had a lot of reps in it and therefore give us our best shots. It’s unlikely because we don’t have any potential deal pending – not on hold, but at the factory – it’s unlikely you’ll have a veteran midfielder who can come back to Here and ready to play as these players can play, even if you think you might have a talent advantage.”
