28-3 reversal? The hawks are about to return against the rams

Englewood, California (AP) – Atlanta has only two players on its roster who played in the 2017 Super Bowl, when they squandered a 28-3 lead against the New England Patriots and lost in overtime.

On Sunday, this new young group of Hawks almost came 28-3 to mean something completely different.

After that score midway through the third quarter against the Los Angeles Rams, the Hawks began their comeback. They were driving for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, only to have their hopes dashed when Marcus Mariota’s pass to Brian Edwards was passed by Jalen Ramsey into the end zone to preserve the Rams’ 31-27 victory.

Coach Arthur Smith said: “We will continue to grow. Sure, you go through these things. It hurts to lose like that and that possession. But we had the right mentality. We will grow and improve. We have a lot of football ahead.

“Obviously we didn’t make enough plays, but the game plan gave us enough and the players kept going and we got a shot. We shot twice. We had a shot in the red area that Ramsey picked and then Maryam.”
